Looking for a little more balance of the mind, body, and spirit? We wanted to explain what chakras are and why more and more people in Western societies are now talking about unblocking them. Chakra is an old Sanskrit word that means wheel or circle. It originated in Indian culture but is widely used in Western alternative healing and spiritual practices. We’ll be going over the Seven-Chakra system, but other systems acknowledge more than seven centers.
Envision seven energy centers from the base of the spine all the way up to the top of the head. They spin like wheels, sending unique frequencies and energy out to specific areas of the body. If the body is completely healthy and balanced, that means all seven chakras are working and energy is flowing easily through all areas of the body. If any of the chakras are off, spinning too much, or hardly at all, then there may be an imbalance going on either physically or psychologically.
Each chakra is associated with a certain color and is linked to specific parts of the body, also linking to the emotional and mental aspects of oneself. A chakra might get blocked because of various reasons such as physical or mental stress. When energy isn’t easily flowing through the body, problems may start to arise causing one to feel a little “off”. This can likely turn into a physical illness or a psychological issue that needs to be dealt with.
Once you’ve figured out which chakra is off balance, there are several practices to help rebalance your chakra system. Even if any of your chakras don’t feel off, many still acknowledge their chakra system and find a practice to maintain the flow of energy throughout the body. This includes getting the help of a healing practitioner such as one specializing in chakra balancing or reiki. Many take it upon themselves to incorporate a practice to tune each chakra through yoga, meditation, music, crystals, and/or essential oils.
